Caldwell Tanks Inc. is adding nearly 17,000 square feet to its headquarters building at 4000 Tower Road, which is off Preston Highway between the Outer Loop and Fern Valley Road.
The project consists of a two-story, east addition with 10,636 square feet on the first floor and 4,900 square feet on the second floor, plus a one-story west addition of 1,310 square feet.
The new space will include offices, conference rooms and file-storage rooms. The project is expected to cost in the low seven-figures, CEO Bernie Fineman said, but he declined to provide a specific figure. He expects it to be completed by next May.
It is being funded partly with a loan from Fifth Third bank and partly with the company's own reserves, he said.
The contractor, LBM Construction Co. Inc., has worked with Caldwell Tanks for about four years, quoting and requoting the project and finding ways to lower costs, Fineman said.
"They've been very patient and diligent about working with us," he said.
Caldwell has planned the addition on and off for about seven years and decided to pull the trigger about three months ago, Fineman said. The space will be used to give the 65 employees that use the building more space and to provide room for growth, he said.
The company has about 500 employees overall, 200 of them based in Louisville, he said.
