From the material of construction to the types of tanks used, no project illustrates Caldwell’s tremendous capabilities quite like the Northeast Water Purification Plant (NEWPP) created for Houston Waterworks. This multi-billion dollar project helped expand on Houston’s Potable Water System. Together, Caldwell Tanks and Preload provided 23 tanks in Humble, TX.
First, for the De-Watering Process, we delivered seven total tanks — all made out of Stainless Steel. Four of the tanks were Shop Fabricated Silos (Cone Bottom, Leg Supported Tanks) that we fabricated at our Louisville, KY facility and shipped to Humble, TX. The other three were Shop Fabricated Rectangular Tanks (Bins), made with a custom design.
Next, for the Chemical Treatment Process Plant, we provided 12 total tanks. Four of these were Carbon Shop Fabricated Tanks, rubber lined before shipping to Humble, TX. The second set of four tanks were Carbon Steel Field-Erected Tanks. We insulated each of these, supplying them with PVC Bag Liners. The third set of four tanks were insulated Field-Erected Stainless Steel Tanks. All of these tanks were carefully designed to store acids.
Preload’s ground storage tanks consisted of a multi-year phased schedule utilizing (4) 12.0MG - 226ID X 40’SWD GST’s. Preload built two of the tanks simultaneously to completion for each phase. Moreover, these massive structures required a ground improvement system needing installation of over 600 stone columns per tank.
